Welcome to the nest: Dee

Could your face use a little freshening for fall? Meet our newest nester and glowing skin guru, Amy “Dee” Stufflebeam.

An Atlanta native, Dee began studying esthetics with the goal of becoming a make-up artist but found that helping to heal problem skin called to her. Dee comes to us most recently from Village Health Spa. Her specialty is blending natural remedies with modern skin care to find solutions for every skin type. Her favorite part of this work? The relationships she builds with her clients.

When she’s not polishing skin to perfection, you can find her kickboxing, writing or working on her show, Bleux Stockings Society, a monthly live lit event.

You can book online with Dee here.

Summer Skin

Atlanta organic facial

From heat to humidity and all that extra time in the sun, summer presents unique skin care challenges. Here are three simple reminders to help you put your best face forward.

Seriously, we can’t say this enough: Always wear sunscreen. The number one, go-to beauty and wellness weapon is sunscreen. Be sure to wear at least SPF 30 on your face and body. When in doubt, reapply and while you’re at it, grab yourself an adorable sunhat. Luckily, sunscreen has come a long way. Gone are the days of battling with sticky, white paste.  Our favorite brand, COOLA smells yummy, goes on easy and best of all is 70% + certified organic.

Hydration is key to good health, and bonus: great skin. Higher temps and more time outside make it easier to dehydrate. During the summer, you should be upping your normal eight 8-ounce glasses of water to about ten to twelve glasses a day.

Consider a pared-down makeup routine for the warmer months. Not only does it give you that fresh-faced summer vibe, but it lets your skin breathe and helps keep your pores from clogging.

And, drumroll, please… we have recently added a must-have summer treatment to our facial menu:

Intraceuticals Rejuvenate + Antioxidant Booster:

This oxygen treatment addresses visible puffiness and dark circles around the eye area, making it perfect for tired or travel-weary skin. Revitalizes and balances dull, stressed skin with exceptionally powerful natural antioxidants sourced from the Australian Rainforest. Clarifies and refines the appearance of skin prone to blemishes, visible pores, sun damage, uneven texture or deep wrinkles. Book this one for after your next beach trip!

45-55 minutes…..$170We are offering this service at 20% off when you book online!

Fostering our flock | Julie Ann Travis: A modern shaman.

Ready to get grounded and recharge? Allow us to introduce you to Julie Ann Travis. We are such fans of her shamanic energy healing work that we decided to co-host a 3-part series called Space & Beauty.

Curious to know more? Cool, we thought so.

A: What exactly is a shamanic practitioner?

JT: Shamanism is the oldest form of spirituality on the planet, dating back over 40,000 years! A shamanic practitioner is someone with works with spiritual aspects of an illness or imbalance. According to the Siberian Tungus tribe, the word Shaman means: the one who sees in the dark.

A: What are some of the issues clients seek your help with?

JT: Many things! To name a few: Chronic illness (physical, mental, emotional), PTSD, releasing toxic patterns, empowerment, or simply seeking clarity on their life path. Basically, if there is something bothering you, there is a spiritual root cause.

A: Tell us a little bit about what we could expect in a session with you.

JT: All sessions could include one or more of the following:

Illumination: clearing and balancing the chakra

Extraction: removing crystallized or fluid energies from the energy field

Soul Retrieval: recovering essential lost part of one’s soul that have fled during past traumatic events

Destiny Retrieval

Death Rites

Ceremony and Rite of Passage

Space and Land Clearings

A: Tell us about your path to this work.

My path of Shamanic Practitioner began at a very early age; I have known since the age of four that I was brought here to be of service. I share a similar path of many shamans: the wounded healer's journey. Most of my late teens and twenties were full of chronic illness and deep depression. With the help of the beloved Q’ero shamans, I was able to step in and accept my calling to service during a vacation turned spiritual pilgrimage in Peru.

A: And finally, what bird would you be and why?

JT: I’d be a Robin. Since they are always in groups, it reminds me to connect with my local community. They don’t need to migrate and can make their home here year-round. Also, they lay the most gorgeous powder-blue eggs.

Come be part of one or all three of our events with Julie! Get more info here or BOOK the series HERE

One of our favorite things about our work, is the opportunity to shed light on products, services and practitioners we adore. This time, we’ve teamed up with Myka Harris & WAX to produce a 3- part series of workshops with our favorite healer: Julie Ann Travis. SPACE & BEAUTY is designed to cleanse, ground and recharge every aspect of your life. Join us for the whole series or just a part. Sessions are $45 each or $120 for the series.

Sizzling Hot Summer Hair

From taming frizz to fighting flatness, summer hair care has its challenges. Perfect for festivals, travel or just romping around the city, stay cool with this easy summer ‘do.

  • Mist with Davines Sea Salt Spray
  • Tease your hair at the root to add oomph.
  • Sweep bangs to one side, and pull the rest of your locks back by loosely braiding a few sections into a low pony.
  • Secure with a hair elastic. Gently pull apart sections of the braids to achieve a lived in look.
  • Wrap one strand around the pony base to hide the hair elastic. Smooth with Davines Oi Oil to add shine and tame flyways.

More about Davines: We're in love with this boutique brand founded in Parma, Italy. Davines is all about smart sustainability. They  work closely with small family farms in Italy to grow their ingredients! Their line includes everything from shampoo and conditioner to treatment and styling. Swing by and check it out.

Dr. Amy King

fostering our flock | dr. amy king - intuitive chiropractor

We first heard of Dr. Amy King a year or so ago when In Fine Feather did a feature on her. A chiropractor that approaches each client holistically, treating mind, body, and spirit? We were intrigued! Since then we’ve become huge fans of her practice Little 5 Points Chiropractic and happily discovered we are birds of a feather, too. Get to know one of our flock, Dr. Amy King.

Where would we find you on a Sunday afternoon?

Hanging out with my cute pup Bacon, brunching and exploring the city.

You just picked up your best friend from the airport and it’s his/her first time in Atlanta. Where is the first place you take him/her and why?

My favorite thing about Atlanta is all of the amazing local artwork we have, but if I had to pick a location I’d say The Atlanta Botanical Gardens. So on the drive up from the airport I’d take us though my favorite neighborhoods to check out all of the art, and then end up at the gardens to explore. I love the contrast of city life with such a huge and beautiful natural area in the middle of the city that's also connected to Piedmont Park.

What is your favorite place to spend time outside of the city?

Sweetwater Creek State Park or Arabia Mountain for earthing!

What are you currently reading?

I'm typically reading about 5 books at a time. Right now it's:

  1. Essentialism by Greg McKeown
  2. Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton
  3. Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss
  4. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
  5. Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar

And last, but not least, what bird would you be and why?

I’d be a hummingbird. They are said to be messengers of happiness, hope and joy. They lift us up during times of negativity while encouraging us to express love more fully.

Lite Brite: Spring Hair Inspiration

Despite the strange shifts in weather, spring is in full bloom here in Atlanta (hello, pollen) and we’re excited to freshen up your tresses! Stylist Jenni Renshaw says collar length; multi-texture hair is hot for spring. Make this “spring breeze blown” look your own in 4 steps.

  1. Set the tone: Use Davines Minu shampoo and conditioner for vibrant, juicy color.
  2. Go sleek: Blow-dry with Davines Melu heat protector spray.
  3. Get styled: Section hair into 1 to 1-1/2 inch pieces. Using a 1-1/2 inch barrel curling iron, start your curl in the middle. Leave the ends out for a tousled, wavy look.
  4. Finish it: Davines medium hold spray gives you soft, flexible hold.

To achieve this stunning shade, we’d use OWAY hair color for an organic, ammonia-free, bold and beautiful red! Craving a little more color in your life? Book an appointment for yourself here.

A note about parking at studioplex

You may have heard the news about the upcoming improvements coming to Studioplex and The Old 4th Ward. Studioplex is working to bring a boutique hotel to the space behind Serpas on the Beltline. In anticipation of it’s arrival, effective immediately, the back parking lot is closed in order to build a multi level parking structure.

In the meantime, parking at Studioplex is going to be transformed and one of our favorite additions is a valet!!! No more circling the lot hoping to find an available space, just pull in the front and drop your car off.

If you do not wish to valet your car, all the parking on Auburn Ave is still an option as is parking on Airline, just West of the Studioplex entrance. The valet will be an hourly rate similar to those at Krog Market, Inman Quarter and Ponce City Market.

Please continue to arrive a few minutes prior to your appointment in order to familiarize yourself with the new system. While change can be inconvenient, we are reminding ourselves that it is inevitable and a part of growth.

See you soon,

Amy Leavell Bransford & Aviary {Beauty & Wellness Collective}
